Health Insurance Coverage – Types
Health Insurance coverage is no less important than adequate health
insurance plan. Your health insurance coverage should cover
if not all
but at least the majority of health care needs and guarantee that
you'll be provided with all medical services covered by your coverage.
Before you start shopping around for an appropriate health insurance
coverage, you have to decide which health care needs you want your
future coverage to cover and how much money you can afford to spend on
health insurance premiums, which you'll have to pay every month. It's
also necessary to make sure that you know enough about various types of
available coverages. There are five basic types of health insurance
coverage:
1) Indemnity coverage enables you to choose doctors and out-of-pocket
health care expenses for various periods of time.
2) Managed care coverage includes such health insurance plans as HMO
(Health Maintenance Organization) plans, PPO (Preferred Provider
Organization) plans and POS (Point of Service) plans. All three plans
presuppose a certain arrangement between health insurance
company and selected network of physicians and hospitals.
According to
any of these health insurance plans, you have to select you doctor and
hospital out of company's network.
3) Major medical coverage protects you from unforeseen accident
injuries
and catastrophic illness. This type of coverage is a good option for
those people who aim at affordable
health insurance as far as it provides a great number
of benefits because it doesn't include preventive health care,
regular check-ups and drugs prescription.
4) Disability health insurance coverage pays you money in cases when
you
are not able to work because of various medical conditions, state of
health or injury.
5) Short
term health insurance coverage covers health care needs which
can be caused as a result of catastrophe or any other accident. It's
usually available only to those people who are under the age of 65 and
don't have any other health insurance coverage.
While searching for and choosing a certain coverage, you have to know
for sure what coverages will be best for you and whether you may need
any type of additional coverages such as doctor visits, lab work and
probably hospital stays. All those people who purchase individual or
family
health insurance coverage can decide which coverage they need
themselves. However those people who are provided with group health
insurance by their employers should find out whether all
their health
care needs are covered, in case something you consider to be important
is missing, you should purchase all additional coverages independently.
